About This Alphabet
The Spanish alphabet mixes personal names and Spanish cities — Antonio, Barcelona, Carmen, Dolores, Enrique. Spanish was one of the three ICAO working languages used to test NATO code words, ensuring all 26 NATO words are recognizable to Spanish speakers. For aviation and international communication, Spain and Latin American countries use NATO.
